Comfort
• New ProMountain® Air Rear SuspensionThe Nytro MTX SE 162 has no heavy steel suspension springs on its ProMountain Air rear suspension. The new mountain-specific skid was completely engineered in close collaboration with Fox to bring the industry’s first springless sled. Engineering priorities targeted both powder performance and light weight. Heavy control rods were eliminated on this semi-coupled system. Machined looking rails also eliminate mass. Lightweight ice scratchers eliminate four idler wheels and their mounting hardware. In total, the new 162-inch suspension is nearly 10 pounds lighter than the 2009 Nytro MTX 153-inch rear suspension!
• Fox® FLOAT™ 2 XV rear shockThe new ProMountain Air rear suspension uses a brand new Fox FLOAT 2 XV shock on its rear arm. The new shock features an external air chamber to give it the additional air spring capability needed to eliminate the need for heavy steel torsion springs. This shock is the direct result of close collaboration with Fox to develop industry-leading air shock technology.
• Fox® FLOAT™ 2 front shocksFox® FLOAT™ 2 shocks use an air spring designed to force the piston to rebound. This eliminates the need for steel coil springs. They cut three pounds off the sled’s overall weight, as compared to traditional coil over springs. They are individually tunable by using a pocket-sized air pump, which comes with the sled, so consumers will be able to set the front suspension up to their liking.
• Wheels with removable bearingsThe newly designed wheels make the ride smooth and make maintenance easy. Now when the bearings need to be replaced you don’t have to purchase a whole new wheel, just remove the old bearings and insert the new ones. The wheels also include a new spoke design and a rubber rim that make for a comfortable riding experience. This new design will be implemented on the rear large wheels as well as the internal smaller wheels.
• Sculpted narrow seatThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162 has a narrow seat for comfort. In addition to putting the rider in a tall, forward, attack posture, the seat’s height makes it plush and comfortable for a full day of riding. The narrow seat sits atop the beveled tunnel, which allows the track to be a traditional 15 inches wide, to maximize traction.
• New grip warmersThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162 receives new, redesigned grip warmers for 2010. These new grip warmers deliver a more concentrated heat source rather than spreading the warmth out. The result is a much warmer grip for your hand’s most comfortable riding position. In addition, an insulator has been inserted between the heating element and handlebar to retain heat longer and more efficiently.
• Digital gaugeThe digital gauge displays key information at a glance. Vehicle speed is displayed on a large LCD readout. In addition, the rider can select tachometer, odometer or tripmeter data to appear on secondary readout. The gauge also displays system warning lights, fuel level, and warmer intensity.
• Quick-release, single-piece hood/console shroudThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162 has a single-piece hood and console shroud. The design allows owners to open and close the top portion of the sled easily with Dzus® quick-connect fasteners.
• New graphic packagesThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162 comes in two graphic packages; Yamaha blue/white as well as Yamaha black. These awesome designs produce one of the best looking sleds on the snow.
Handling
• FXG2 front suspension geometryThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162 features the acclaimed FXG2 wide-stance front suspension with more trail and relaxed caster for greater bump handling on the trail heading in and out as well as on beat up climbs. There is no sway bar on this front suspension, which saves three and a half pounds of weight, while giving the sled excellent sidehilling performance and deep snow handling.
• Lightweight tunnelThe new FX Nytro MTX SE 162 features a lightweight tunnel design. With the runningboards tipped up at an aggressive 11-degree angle, the FX Nytro MTX SE 162 delivers big ground clearance for less hanging up in the powder. The new design also features large snow evacuation and boot gripper punch outs.
• FX™ chassis with sport rider-forward positionThe compact design puts the engine down low and back in the chassis, leaving the top of the cab open for airflow. This gives the FX Nytro MTX SE 162 a very centralized mass. The FX Nytro MTX SE 162’s sport rider-forward ergonomic design puts the rider in an aggressive, yet comfortable, forward posture.
• Tall, wide, hooked mountain handlebarsTo match the tall and forward position, a single-piece, dual-hooked handlebar is standard fare on the FX Nytro MTX SE 162. The hooks have the same grip material as the main bar section, for consistent control, regardless of hand position on the grip. Mountain riders will appreciate the center grab strap when it’s time for sidehilling.
• Composite upper skeletonThe headlight assembly and upper portion of the FX Nytro MTX SE 162 is supported by a super-lightweight composite framework. By using a rugged, high tech composite material as the structure for the top portion of the sled, Yamaha engineers were able to keep the mass centered low and deep in the chassis.
Performance
• Genesis® 130FI 4-stroke engineThe over-achieving, quick-revving, high-torque Genesis 130FI engine is the heart of our lightweight, high performance and aggressive FX Nytro model family. It has dominated its class at the Old Forge Shoot-Out 2 years straight, claiming top horsepower in its class in the independent, third-party dyno testing. The advanced fuel injection keeps the 3-cylinder engine running at maximum 130 horsepower-class performance.
• Advanced fuel injectionThe Genesis 130FI uses Yamaha’s advanced fuel injection system to control fuel flow to the engine. Consumers will enjoy the engine’s spot-on performance and throttle response as a result of the advanced electronic fuel injection system.
• 18-degree track approach angleThe new ProMountain Air rear suspension features a new 18-degree track approach angle. This new angle is approximately 25% shallower than the previous design. It gets the sled up on top of the snow quickly for great boondocking and awesome snowmobility. The design is also very efficient, resulting in higher track speeds, which equals incredible hillclimbing capability.
• 15x162x2.25-inch Single-ply Camoplast® Maverick™ trackYamaha and Camoplast® collaborated in the development of the Maverick™ track. The 15x162x2.25-inch track uses a new durable single-ply design with a 3-inch pitch to allow more snow to pack in between the lugs for a firmer grip on the snow. Also, the lugs are extremely varied in design and profile for even more traction in multiple snow conditions. Yamaha engineers tried many different track designs and configurations, but none could consistently outperform this new Maverick™.
• Extrovert driversChurning the track is a pair of factory-engineered extrovert drive sprockets. The engineering team purpose-built these sprockets to work with the Maverick™ track and reduce vibration.
• Engine braking reduction systemThe Genesis 130FI features the unique Engine Braking Reduction System. The system allows a small amount of air to pass through the fuel injection system when the throttle is released, giving riders a “coast” feeling.
• Lightweight rear-exiting exhaustThe patented rear exit design serves many performance-enhancing functions on the FX Nytro MTX SE 162. First, it maximizes horsepower by using a straight exhaust pipe design. Second, it reduces the amount of under-hood heat produced. Third, the rear-exiting design distributes weight to contribute to the excellent balance of the sled.
• Forced air radiator ductingThe FX Nytro MTX SE 162’s airflow design pulls fresh air in from around the headlight and forces it through the radiator fins for high cooling capacity, resulting in consistent engine performance even in low-snow conditions.
